God Sightings Week 24, June 27th – July 3rd  Old Testament: 2 Kings 10:32 – 2 Kings 23:30    When reading through these passages, I get a sense that I’m reading current history.

Old Testament: I Kings 11:1 – 21:29    Within these chapters we find one of the greatest heroes of the Bible – Elijah the Tishbite. He becomes a man that not only continues to work miracles, but also has no fear about standing up against the King himself.

Old Testament: 2 Samuel 15:23 – 24:25  These passages really show the difficulties that David encountered in his lifetime. Previously we had read how long it took David to finally secure his throne from Saul; several of those years being spent on the run in the “stronghold” trying to stay alive.

As you can see Adam is much better at keeping up with this than I am.  Oh, to have the fortitude of youth once again.  Let me start with a poem you may have seen before but is most appropriate for our theme of God Sightings – BLESSINGS (author unknown) The man whispered, “God speak [...]

God Sightings #20, May 16th – 22nd.  Old Testament: 1 Samuel 17:1 – 31:13 The story of David and Goliath is a classic. OLD TESTAMENT: We have begun our journey into the Book of Judges.  It is one of the more enjoyable books of the Old Testament, especially after reading all of the laws and tribe boundaries.  Actually, “enjoyable” is not the best word as the Book of Judges is filled with tragedy.  As Adam mentioned last week [...]

Old Testament: Joshua 15:1 – Judges 2:9    One of the overarching themes that we see presented in these sections – and into Judges as well – is the trouble that the Israelites encountered due to not fully driving out the inhabitants of the land. On careful reading of the text you’ll find several places [...]

Old Testament: Numbers 30:1 – Deut. 6:25   There is an interesting statement made by God in Deut. 2:9, “the LORD said to me: ‘Do not harass Moab or engage them in battle, for I will not give you any of its land as a possession,

Old Testament – Numbers 8:1 – 20:29   In Num. 9 we have, what I believe to be, a show of grace. Throughout history, starting not long after the apostles had died, the church became mostly Gentile, and as a result, extremely racist.
