Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me…  Psalm 43:3

 I recommend reading Psalm 43.

Charles Gabriel grew up in Iowa.  He lived on a farm until age seventeen.  He was drawn to music as a child when his Methodist family purchased a small reed organ.  He taught himself to play it.  His parents encouraged his music and he was leading singing schools at age sixteen.  He married and his marriage failed due to his frantic schedule.  He moved to California to get a new start and soon he married.  In 1890 he began working at the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church in San Francisco.  The Sunday school superintendent asked for a missionary hymn for Easter Sunday.  Gabriel wrote the hymn “Send the Light” and propelled him into prominence in the hymn-writing community.  He wrote seven thousand hymns.  Some he wrote the words and music are “What a Savior,” “More Like the Master,” “He Is So Precious to Me,” and the music for “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” and “The Way of the Cross.”

Lord, You Are the Light of the World!!!

 My prayer for the week:

Lord, You put the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Our faith grows day by day as we serve You.  It is through prayer that we can share our thankfulness and dreams.  Thank you for listening.  Amen
